We are saddended to report the passing of our Past President and honorary member, Dr. Herman L. Auerbach...Our condolences to the Auerbach family.

Dr. Herman L. Auerbach, 87, died Sept. 21, 2012 in Columbus, Ohio at the home of his son Bruce, daughter-in-law, Patti and their two sons. Dr. Auerbach was a prominent physician in internal medicine and served the Hazleton area during his entire career. He was chief of staff at both St. Joseph's Hospital and the State Hospital in Hazleton. Dr. Auerbach went to Osaka, Japan to study endoscopy and was one of the first physicians in the area to perform endoscopy and colon services. In addition to his medical career, he was a past president of the Valley Country Club and of Rotary and was an active member of Beth Israel Temple Brotherhood. Herman retired to a golf community in Florida about 20 years ago with his wife Bette. He remained physically and mentally active attending continuing education courses in medicine and playing 18 holes of golf five-to-six times a week until about five weeks before his death. His wife Bette died in 2007 and his daughter Lee Ann died a few years before Bette. In addition to his son, Dr. Auerbach is survived by his daughter Francine, 5 grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews. The family plans to celebrate his life with a private service during the Thanksgiving holiday.
