It was a morning filled with the Christmas spirit for some lucky area youngsters and Rotary Club members and their spouses who got together on Sunday, December 9, at Boscovsfor  a special holiday
shopping spree.

A co-operative effort of the Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Club of Hazleton, the United Way of Greater Hazleton and Boscov’s, over 25 children whose names were provided by The Salvation Army, Catholic Social Services, Commission on Economic Opportunity and United Charities were given an hour  to purchase $50 worth of gifts for themselves and/or family members.

“It was up each child to decide what they wanted to purchase and for whom” explains Rotary President Paul Malone, “Rotary club members and their spouses were chaperones just to help the children if they needed it.”

“This was a first-time project for the club  and I hope it continues.”, says Pat Korb, Rotary Club member. “It was a pleasure for my husband and I to watch our “shopper” as he very carefully selected items all the kids in his family could share and something very special for his Mom.  He had obviously carefully planned for his spree and knew what he wanted to do and it really showed us he understood the “giving” spirit of the season.”

Special  thanks is extended toBoscovs for opening their store early for this community service project and for providing refreshments for everyone once the shopping was ended.

Rotary Foundation President LexSloot was Project Chairman. The following Rotary Club members, as well as some spouses served as chaperones: Gene and Anita Acri, Donna Barna, John and Brenda Beltrami, Jerry and Paula Benz, Paul and Lani Brenner, Lani and John Drobnock, Lisa and Mark Finklestein, Michele and Bill Fisher, Tim and MichelleGenetti, Terry & Wendy Jones, Pat and Mike Korb, Ron &Barbara Kutchmarick, Tom and  ChristineLagana, Katrina & Bill Lennartz, John & Margo Madden, Paul & Mary Malone, De Ann Miller, Katherine Oh and friends, Jerry Panisak, RobSensky& Suzanne Lombardo, Pat & Kathy Ward and Foundation Member JoAnne Yannuzzi.
