Thomas Leary, President, Luzerne County Community College, discussed “Workforce Development and Career Education in our Region.” LCCC's Goal is to insure the areas workforce can fill the needs of local industries. They offer dislocated workers a free semester of tuition to gain new skills. The program boasts a 70% retention rate. The Hazleton Campus has a focused ESL/ Multi-Cultural Learning Center which has increased by 40%. LCCC works with local business and industries to provide a "Customized Job Training" program geared towards that specific company. Rotarians can help by providing job shadowing opportunities as well as internships, speaking to students or providing jobs. Terry Bauder, Director of LCCC's Hazleton campus, introduced the speaker.
