“There is plenty of summer fun in store for three area students who have been selected as scholarship recipients to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference” said Kim McNulty, Hazleton Rotary RYLA project chairwoman. “Anthony Arias Tejeda, Anna Drobnock, and Ben Drobnock, all rising juniors at MMI Preparatory School, were awarded the Hazleton Rotary and Hazleton Rotary Foundation Scholarships that enable them to take part in this event.”RYLA will be held June 21-25 at Keystone College in La Plume.
RYLA has been designed as a five-day four-night leadership program for high school students who have completed their sophomore year and shown leadership potential in their home, school and community.
The conference is designed to introduce participants to thoughts and ideas which will strengthen and develop their leadership skills.
The program will highlight three different components, including team projects, small group activities and time for social life, like organized sports, dancing and other activities.
“The scholarships Hazleton Rotary has provided means that the only cost to RYLA attendees is transportation to and from the conference” said Club President Joan Buffington. “It is really exciting to be able to provide an opportunity for some Hazleton students to get together with other students from NEPA to discuss and exchange their ideas.”
